Norma Rose Point Elementary School Information

Norma Rose Point Elementary brings new life to the area by replacing the old University Hill Secondary School on Acadia road. The school will consist of two major wings, one for Kindergarten to grade 5 and the other wing for grades 6 – 8. The school’s construction is on track for occupancy in time for classes of September 2014.

The school was named after a locally renowned educator, and Musqueam elder Norma Rose Point. The vision for UBC’s education system has established itself over the last ten years which includes a vision of two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. When the number of students requires it, a third elementary school will be planned to be built in Wesbrook Village.

Vancouver School Boards’ director of instruction, field services team, Robert Schindel said that in order to achieve this vision the VSB needs to re-align the current grade configuration at both the University Hill Elementary and Secondary Schools.

A few important milestones to note:

September 2014

  • Norma Rose Point Elementary School officially opens and will offer K – 7 during its first year
  • University Hill Elementary School will begin to offer K – 5, students will attend Norma Rose Point for grades 6 and 7
  • University Hill Secondary will continue to offer grades 8 through 12.

September 2015

  • Norma Rose Point begins to offer grade 8 courses, University Hill Elementary will offer K- 5 and University Hill Secondary will offer courses from grade 9 – 12.
